Proudly serving the region he grew up in, Matt Fairless is a civil litigation attorney with local roots. A graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia, Matt received his degree in English and Economics. A keen interest in economics led him to pursue career as a civil litigation attorney. Matt attended law school at the University of Missouri – Columbia, graduating in the top 15% of his class. There he was a member of the Law Review, he published several articles, and served on the student-faculty committee to increase the admissions of minority students. On graduation in 1991, Matt accepted the position of Associate Attorney in the civil litigation department at one of St. Louis’ largest law firms, Thompson Coburn, becoming the youngest attorney in the modern era of the firm to try a jury trial. In that first jury trial, the jury awarded Matt’s home builder client over $350,000 in damages, including his client’s attorneys’ fees.

- Served as the primary trial attorney for the City of St. Peters, Missouri, in defense of the lawsuit brought by Great Rivers Habitat Alliance and Adolphus Busch to stop the Lakeside 370 levee and development project. The Cole County Circuit Court ruled in favor of Matt’s client, and the judgment was upheld by Missouri’s Western District Court of Appeals, and by the Missouri Supreme Court.
- Defended CitiMortgage against a lender liability claim. Matt was brought into the case as lead trial counsel two months before trial. After a 4-day trial, Matt and his co-counsel obtained a defense verdict.
- Matt tried his first jury trial—just 5 years out of law school—earlier than any other associate in the history of one of Missouri’s largest law firms, winning a $350,000 damages award for the firm’s client.
A Family Man with a Passion for Justice & Law
Matt is the proud father of his two sons, Will and Mitch, and he currently lives with his family in St. Charles, Missouri, where he grew up, attending St. Peter Parish grade school and Duchesne High School. In 2020, Matt opened The Fairless Law Firm LLC to provide reasonably priced legal services within his practice areas.
